About Course

The English Year 6 syllabus is designed to help pupils develop strong communication skills in English through fun, meaningful, and interactive learning. It builds on what they’ve learned in previous years and prepares them for using English confidently in real-life situations and future studies.

Throughout the year, pupils explore 10 engaging units that cover a wide range of topics — from emergencies and adventures to jobs, opinions, and stories. Each unit focuses on developing the four key language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing, while also improving vocabulary, grammar, and sentence structure.

Pupils will learn to:

  • Express ideas clearly and confidently in both spoken and written English.

  • Understand and respond to a variety of texts such as stories, articles, dialogues, and interviews.

  • Use correct grammar and vocabulary in everyday communication.

  • Think critically and creatively through discussion, debates, and writing activities.

  • Collaborate with peers and show appreciation for English in daily life.

By the end of Year 6, pupils are expected to become more independent English users — able to read with understanding, write creatively, and communicate effectively in various contexts.
