About Course

Description: English Year 2 (KSSR SK)

The Year 2 English subject aims to build pupils’ basic communication skills in English through listening, speaking, reading, and writing. It focuses on simple and meaningful use of language in everyday life. Pupils will learn to interact politely, share ideas, and express themselves confidently in familiar contexts.

The lessons are designed around interesting themes such as school, family, food, hobbies, the environment, and good values. Pupils will develop vocabulary, simple grammar structures, and reading comprehension skills through stories, songs, dialogues, and activities.

By the end of Year 2, pupils are expected to:

  • Listen and respond to simple instructions and short texts.

  • Speak clearly using basic greetings, questions, and sentences.

  • Read and understand simple words, phrases, and short passages.

  • Write simple sentences with correct spelling and punctuation.

  • Use polite expressions in daily communication.

  • Appreciate moral values and good habits through stories and activities.

This subject encourages pupils to enjoy learning English in a fun and engaging way, while building confidence to use the language in real-life situations.

Unit 1: Hooray! We Are Back
Short Notes Greetings: Hello, Hi, Good morning, Good afternoon. Introductions: My name is … / I am … Friends & School: Talking to friends, meeting teachers, classroom objects. Polite Words: Please, Thank you, Sorry, Excuse me.

Unit 2: Do the Right Thing
Short Notes We must be polite and use words like please, thank you, sorry, excuse me. We should help others at home, school, and in public places. We must follow rules such as queuing, crossing the road safely, and keeping clean. Doing the right thing makes us good and kind friends. Wrong actions such as littering, shouting, or being rude should be avoided.

Unit 3: Where Am I?
Notes (Summary) We use prepositions of place to say where things are. in, on, under, in front of, behind, next to, between We ask questions using Where...? Example: – Where is the cat? – It is under the chair. Vocabulary: classroom, school, park, library, canteen, playground, etc. Sentence pattern: The bag is on the table. The ball is under the chair. She is in the classroom.

Unit 4: Read Me a Story
Short Notes Stories have characters, settings, and events. Reading stories helps us learn values, enjoy, and imagine. We use First, Next, Then, Finally to tell the order of events. Common story characters: animals, children, heroes, princesses. Moral values: be kind, be honest, help others.

Unit 5: I Am Special
Short Notes Everyone is unique and special. We have different talents, abilities, and likes. Respect and be proud of yourself. Be kind and appreciate others’ differences

Unit 6: Delicious Food
Quick Notes Vocabulary: rice, noodles, chicken, fish, bread, fruits, vegetables, milk, water, juice. Likes & Dislikes: I like… / I don’t like… Expressions: What do you want to eat? – I want… Healthy vs Unhealthy food. Polite phrases: Please, Thank you.

Unit 7: Hobbies
Quick Summary Notes Hobby means an activity we like to do in our free time. Examples of hobbies: reading, drawing, singing, dancing, gardening, collecting stamps, cycling, playing football. Hobbies make us happy, healthy, and creative. Some hobbies are done indoors (reading, painting) and some outdoors (cycling, gardening). Everyone can have different hobbies and we should respect them.

Unit 8: Growing Plants
Short Notes Plants need sunlight, water, air, and soil to grow. A seed will grow into a plant when it gets enough needs. The main parts of a plant are: root, stem, leaves, flower. Plants give us food, oxygen, and shade. We must take care of plants by watering them and not harming them.

Unit 9: When I Grow Up
Notes (Short Summary) This unit is about jobs and occupations. Pupils learn to talk about dream jobs and what they want to be in the future. Examples of jobs: teacher, doctor, nurse, firefighter, farmer, pilot, police officer, chef. Use sentences like: I want to be a teacher. He/She wants to be a doctor. Unit 10: Caring and Sharing
Short Notes Caring means showing kindness and helping others. Sharing means giving part of what you have to others. We can care by helping friends, family, and animals. We can share food, toys, or knowledge. Caring and sharing make people happy and build friendship.

Unit 11: Looking Good
Short Notes We wear clothes to cover and protect our bodies. Clothes keep us warm, cool, and comfortable. We wear different clothes for different occasions (school, parties, sports, traditional events). We must keep our clothes clean and tidy. Accessories (hats, shoes, ties, belts, ribbons) make us look neat. Good grooming shows self-respect and discipline.

Unit 12: On the Farm
Short Notes A farm is a place where animals and crops are raised. Common farm animals: cow, goat, sheep, chicken, duck, horse. Farm products: milk, eggs, meat, vegetables, fruits. Farmers take care of animals and grow plants. Machines like tractors help on the farm. Farms give us food and important resources.

Unit 13: Good Deeds
Short Notes Good deeds mean doing kind and helpful things. Examples: helping friends, sharing food, being polite, saying “thank you”. Good deeds make people happy. We should do good deeds at home, in school, and everywhere. A person who does good deeds is respected and loved.

Unit 14: Precious Drops
Short Notes Water is very important for life. We use water for drinking, cooking, bathing, washing and cleaning. Plants and animals also need water to live. We must not waste water. Save water by turning off the tap, using water wisely, and recycling rainwater.

Unit 15: Save the Sea Creatures
Short Notes Sea creatures include fish, turtles, whales, dolphins, crabs, and many more. Pollution (plastic, rubbish, oil) is dangerous for sea creatures. We must not throw rubbish into the sea. Saving sea creatures means protecting the environment. Ways to help: Do not litter. Recycle plastic. Use reusable bags. Join beach clean-up.

Unit 16: Reuse, Recycle
Short Notes Reuse: Use things again instead of throwing them away. Recycle: Change waste into new products. Examples of reuse: Use glass bottles to keep water, use old jars for storage. Examples of recycle: Paper, plastic, cans, and glass. Importance: Saves money, reduces waste, protects the Earth. Slogan: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

Unit 17: Myths
Short Notes Myth is a traditional story passed down from generation to generation. Myths often explain natural events or teach moral lessons. Myths usually have magical creatures, heroes, or gods. Examples: Dragons, giants, mermaids, fairies. Some myths explain why the sun rises, why it rains, or why animals behave in certain ways. Myths are not real but are important in culture.

Unit 18: Feeling Happy, Feeling Sad
Short Notes Feelings are emotions we have inside. We can feel happy, sad, angry, scared, excited, or worried. We show feelings through our face, words, and actions. It is important to respect others’ feelings. We should learn to manage our feelings (e.g., talk to someone, stay calm, smile). Always be kind and caring when friends feel sad.
